Incidental Words is a mobile projection poetry performance, taking place in incidental public spaces. Throughout the night, the team will interject multimedium, site specific, poetry performances into unexpected areas-- fusing live literature performance, highstakes charm, live music, and accompanying site specific projections onto buildings and public landmarks. Jon Sands curates local performances, poetry, and a mobile “house band” while Chris Jordan brings the poems to life in a completely different medium, with interpretive projections for each poem, mapped specifically to the walls, floors, and ceilings within the festival space.
Jon Sands and Chris Jordan have been cofacilitating a workshop titled, “Words on Walls” for the last two years; through a grant from the Mozilla Foundation and through two writing organizations: City Lore and Urban Word; and also involving the Bowery Arts & Sciences’ PoemMobile. Chris and Jon are well established in their respective domains, and the fusion of their work together defies categorization. Part poetry performance, part projection mapping/multimedia installation, Jon and Chris are excited to fuse these into a roving platform for live spoken word performance and projection mapping.
