"Miraculous City"

Dan Pecci,Elizabeth Schumann, Matthew Shanley & Karen Stein

Miraculous City was a live piano concert performed in the SoWa Power Station of the historic South End. Two videos will reflect one another in conjunction with the debut performance—the keyboard and the pianist’s hands will be projected onto one wall, and on the other will be a video montage echoing the narrative in the music. This son et lumière (sound & light) experience will celebrate a new era of the arts in the City of Boston.

Elizabeth Schumann has a diverse career portfolio of musical compositions, projects, recordings and performances. The first place winner of both the Bösendorfer International Piano Competition and the Pacific International Competition, Dr. Schumann has won over 25 prizes and awards in other major national and international musical competitions. She has performed concerts worldwide in venues including Vienna’s Bösendorfer Saal, Toronto’s Koerner Hall, The Kennedy Center, National Public Radio, and was highlighted in a PBS television documentary. Her artistry was hailed by the Washington Post as “...deft, relentless, and devastatingly good—the sort of performance you experience not so much with your ears as your solar plexus.” Passionate about combining technology and artistic creativity to reach underserved audiences, Elizabeth founded Piano Theatre, an artist group formed to engage audiences with innovative combinations of music, theatre, literature, art and technology. Piano Theatre’s recent tours of Canada, the US, and Australia were acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. In 2012, Elizabeth founded Project Classical, Inc.¸ a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support artist led initiatives that encourage public education and appreciation of classical music, art and literature. Elizabeth’s recent interdisciplinary project, Piano Carnival, brings classical music to children without arts education. The Piano Carnival Interactive Ebook is available for free on iTunes.
